Position Summary

As Garment Technologist you will be working across multi-product womenswear encompassing soft separates, tailoring, jersey, knitwear and outerwear to achieve the highest standard of fit, construction and technical specification from initial prototype through to gold seal.

This role will suit a Garment Technologist will a passion for premium womenswear and the confidence to work with in a fast paced creative environment.

Main Responsibilities

  • Supporting the Design department to develop the initial technical specification packs to enable suppliers to proceed with proto sampling.
  • Manage and co-ordinate fit meetings through to gold seal. Prepare development samples for fit meetings; this will include measuring, inspecting samples and making preparatory notes for discussion and updating the critical path throughout the fit and development process.
  • Use technical expertise to help improve and/or ensure margins are maintained.
  • Working closely with the pattern room at all stages of development relating to in-house patterns ensuring suppliers have followed through on methods of construction requested via the pattern.
  • Responsible for sending accurate and timely technical comments, liaising with suppliers on daily basis, ensure technical information is understood and the required technical standards are maintained.
  • Liaising with the Production, Design and Technical Managers on any quality issues, being proactive in resolving and implementing solutions to any problems.
  • Raise and submit accurate graded specification sheets for production to suppliers.

Fabrics and Trims:

  • Work with the Fabric & Trim department before fitting starts, to carry out Risk Assessments on all product categories to highlight potential problems and ensure all fabrics and trims are suitable for their end use.
  • Organise and document wearer trials as needed and feed results back to the Womenswear team.
  • Review test reports submitted by fabrics department and suppliers.
  • Submit care label instructions and approve the care label layouts for all garments.
  • Liaise with the fabric department on any issue related to CMT fabric.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the legal requirements around textiles and care labeling.

Factories and Suppliers:

  • Inform suppliers of quality issues and ensure appropriate action is taken to minimize risk of returns and markdowns.
  • Review suppliers each season and feedback to the team on their technical capabilities and their understanding and interpreting of comments.
  • Ensure standards requested via the Supplier Manual are adhered to during the fitting and commenting process.
  • Travel as required to suppliers and factories to resolve quality issues and/or approve samples prior to production.

Returns:

  • Monitor store feedback on fit, fabrication and trimmings and be pro-active in resolving issues.
  • Monitor returns from stores, establish reasons for returns and implement lessons learnt to minimize the risk of re-occurring problems.

General:

  • Contribute to weekly Technical meetings, discussing quality issues and supporting team members.
  • Carry out Store Visits to view product in stores, liaise with Store Managers regarding positive/negative feedback and to report back to the Technical team the findings and whether action needs to be taken.

Essential Skills

  • Garment Technologist with contemporary or luxury experience in multi-product womenswear.
  • Ability to sign off product to Gold Seal Standard.
  • Confident to fit garments and send comments for amendments without a physical pattern.
  • Basic pattern cutting knowledge an advantage as you will be working with complex styles.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with Design, Production, Development and the Sample Room (atelier).
  • Proactive and passionate with the ability to work effectively in a fast moving environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Experience analysing problems and offering solutions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft office.
